Class Presentations

Have you ever really thought about teeth? Sure, you brush them everyday and get them cleaned twice a year, but are teeth really that interesting? You bet! And if you love science you’ll love teeth. From scientists that study microscopic organisms that cause oral diseases to paleontologists who study fossilized dinosaur teeth, scientists from all over love teeth. Teeth can even leave clues to help solve crimes.
Dr. Rivera loves to talk science and he loves to talk teeth. So, if you are looking for a dentist to come to your classroom Dr. Rivera’s presentations can include:
  • Looking at some of the most bizarre and interesting teeth in the animal kingdom.
  • Use dental techniques to make your own copy of a dinosaur tooth to take home.
  • Looking at real live bacteria on a video screen attached to a microscope.
  • Examine Dr. Rivera’s collection of dinosaur and prehistoric teeth.

Student Shadowing

Students interested in a career in dentistry usually have many questions about the different fields of dentistry available.  A good way to answer these questions and to learn about terminology and techniques is to shadow a dental professional.  Shadowing allows a student to come to our dental office and observe various dental procedures performed by Dr. Rivera and his dental team.

You might be wondering why this is important!

  • Well, shadowing can give you a unique understanding of what a day as a dentist, dental assistant, or a dental hygienist is like in a live setting.
  •  Another reason is that admission to dental professional schools is very competitive and shadowing is a great way to show that you are serious about a career in dentistry.

Some do’s and don’ts:

  • Do be punctual
  • Do bring a notebook to jot notes down so you can remember your experience.
  • Don’t be shy. Ask questions. We are here to answer questions.

Student shadowing is available for the following

  • 8th through 12th grade
  • Undergraduate students
  • Dental, dental assistant, or dental hygiene students
